Denim Jeans Get That Stonewashed Look with Acrison
Next time you sling on your jeans, consider the expertise involved in the denim laundry business. A specialist range of detergents, enzymes, softeners and other chemicals are used to wash jeans worldwide - much of which is manufactured by Denykem in West Yorkshire.Following a company restructuring, Denykem focused on its core chemical business (part of the Denykem Group used to stonewash jeans) and has invested in new production equipment - including a granulator and several Acrison feeders.
Given the cost of the raw ingredients and the range of flow properties, it was vital to have accurate, flexible feeders metering dry powder into the granulator. Acrison supplied gravimetric and volumetric versions of its dissimilar speed, double concentric auger 105 feeder, and a volumetric triple auger dissimilar speed BDF-11 model, to be used to feed pigments.
Chief engineer at Denykem, Alban Timmons had the task of selecting the best feeders for the job. "The Acrison package was the most attractive in terms of reliability, accuracy and cost - and as I had experience of Acrison from previous project, I knew the equipment would be able to cope with the rigours of the job."
One of the particular challenges of the project was that the range of products to be fed was subject to substantial change. "We put alternative products through our feeders now, that not only behave quite differently to those initially specified, but are also in greater volume" explained Mr Timmons, "however I'm pleased to say that Acrison's feeders are flexible enough to cope perfectly with the change."
